Mom's Day Blog Hop!

Greetings everyone!

Welcome to the next stop on the Mom’s Day Blog Hop!  You should have arrived here from Jamie’s blog.  I’d like to say a huge thank-you to Nicolette for allowing me to be part of this hop.  It has been a busy few weeks for me – I just returned this past Saturday from a two-week exchange trip in Chile – and Nicolette has been extremely understanding and helpful this week as I prepared for the hop!  Thank you Nicolette!

I am extremely fortunate to have an absolutely wonderful, caring, understanding mother in my life.  My mom has been there for me through good times and bad, always willing to lend an ear and share her advice as I have grown up.  Mothers’ Day is a wonderful time of year to share with her just how much she means to me.  Thank you Mom! :)  This year, I am extremely excited to celebrate her “special day” with this handmade card – my first! (I’m not going to count the numerous “handmade” gifts from elementary school, lol.)

My card was inspired by the sentiment I chose from the Pink by Design “Life’s a Garden” stamp set.  Instead of using the standard “Hallmark” type sentiments you find in the card aisle, I wanted to find something a bit more elegant and appropriate for the moment.  I truly love this quote because it rings so true with my mother and her love for her family.

RECIPE:

Supplies:
- Gypsy
- Cricut Cartridges: "Celebrations”, “Birthday Cakes”, “Mothers’ Day 2010”
- Pink by Design Stamps: “Life’s a Garden”
- Chocolate Brown Stamp Pad
- Standard Colored Cardstock (Value Pack) (blue base of card)
- Me & My Big Ideas “Chester” Stack (patterned papers on card and flower)
- DCWV “The Metallic Stack” (8 x 8) (purple portion of flowers)
- DCWV “Adhesive Brights Mat Stack” (3.875 x 3.875) (background for sentiment)
- Stickles (Purple)
- Cri-Kits Glitter Pens
- Green Ribbon
- Martha Stewart Crafts’ Scoring Board
- Paper Cutter
- Decorative Scissors
- Paper Clips
- Hot Glue Gun
- Adhesives

For this card, I cut the base of the card from the “Celebrations” cartridge at 12" wide and 10.92" high and scored it in half using the Martha Stewart Crafts’ scoring board.  The light blue cardstock is the standard 12 x 12 colored cardstock that you can buy in bulk from local craft stores (I typically buy a variety of the value packs at Michaels when I want multiple colors to use in my projects).   I then cut the same base in a smaller size (9.45” wide and 8.60” high) for the secondary base using the Me & My Big Ideas “Chester” stack.

The flower was created by cutting the layers found on the “Birthday Cakes” cartridge (which I was very lucky to get off of the Cricut Rewards website with my points) at 2.02” wide and 2.00” high from both the DCWV “The Metallic Stack” (in purple) and the Me & My Big Ideas “Chester” stack (patterned paper).  As he has done so many times before, my oh-so-wonderful husband created another one of the wonderful springs he has designed from paper clips to make the flower appear 3-D on the card. The stem of the flower was created using green ribbon and a bent paper clip as well, simply by layering hot glue on the paper clip and wound the ribbon around it.

The sentiment was stamped with chocolate brown ink onto a small piece of green cardstock from the DCWV “Adhesive Brights Mat Stack” and was trimmed using some decorative scissors.

The inside of the card features a sentiment from the “Mothers’ Day 2010” cartridge and was created using a Cri-Kits glitter pen in purple and drawn at 3.20” wide and 3.11” high.
